Alright, I have quite a list of concerts to see this summer. My schedule should allow for them, as long as my funds last. Ok, here's a list of concerts in the Pittsburgh/Cleveland area that I'd like to see. If you'd like to attend, please let me know.
~Twilight Singers http://www.thetwilightsingers.com/
May 24th Cleveland - The Grog Shop
The Twilight Singers have a rather mellow sound, something that I can fall asleep to easily. If you want something a little more upbeat, listen to the Afghan Whigs. The frontman, Greg Dulli headed this band before the Twilight Singers.
Albums to listen to:
"Twilight" and "Blackberry Belle" are good albums. I haven't heard their new one- "Powder Burns", but I'm itching to get it.
For the Afghan Whigs- "1965" and "Blacklove" are both good.
~Ani http://www.righteousbabe.com/ani/index.asp
June 16th Pittsburgh - Rex Theatre
I don't know where to start. Ani has so may albums out and so many good songs, I haven't listened to them all yet. It took me a while to actually listen to Ani. Ben will vouch for this. He tried for years to get me to listen to her. All it took was a few months with his brother, and I was hooked. What do I reccomend? A little of everything. The album that got me really into her was "Little Plastic Castle". "Living in Clip" and "The First Album" became favorites shortly after.
~Clarks http://www.clarksonline.com/
June 24th Chevrolet Amphitheatre
I believe that they're recording this show live. A local favorite, The Clarks aren't a big name band. They have more of a pop sound than I usually like, however something about them works well.
Songs I reccomend:
"Better Off Without You" It's great to listen to after breakups. "Penny on the Floor", "Caroline", and "Apartment Song" are good as well.
~Guster http://www.guster.com/
August 6th Chevrolet Amphitheatre
I'm going to trust the expertiese of Dave and see them in concert. I'm not an avid Guster fan, but all their songs that I've heard, I enjoy. Their album "Lost and Gone Forever" hasn't gotten old yet, and I've been listenint to it failry consistantly for over a year now.
~Tom Petty http://www.tompetty.com/
August 16th- This is going off of Kristin. I haven't found a location yet.
Um, if you don't know who Tom Petty is, I'm not going to waste my time explaining who he is. moron.
I think Trey Anastasio might be opening for him. Awesome!

Jen,
Thanks for the heads up on the websites. I think the idea is bad ass. I also am jazzed to hear your summer concert line up. I know Tom and Dana Petty (don't ask) and thought he was going to re-arrange a bit this summer oh well...That is Tom. Keep blogging and I will be back, if that sounds appropriate you you. I am going to travel a bit, and hope to end it all with the Austin Music Festival in Austin, TX in mid September. They are keeping the line up a suspense, teasing of sorts, and IF like years past, it will be way worth it.
Peace out,
Hey! looks like you stole one of my fans! It's alright, I'm a fan of his, so I'll allow the blog orgy.
Looking at the list, I'm going to assume you just adopted everything my brother listens to. That can be dangerous--he likes a lot of suck.
Speaking of suck, take how ever bad you think Guster is, multiply it by 1000, and then vomit in it. This would be my experience when I saw them live. And the show was only $5. I feel cheated out of the quality of my life forever.
woo hoo for blog orgies! I just added They Might Be Giants to my summer concert lineup. They're playing next week, and I'm talking Rachele into going.
Ben, thanks for the heads up about Guster. I probably take your advice and ignore it. However, I do like your description of their show. Very graphic. Are you sure you weren't just drunk and vomited?
Dear the warrior,
Whoever you are, I'm glad I stole you from Ben. I'll keep my eyes open for Tom Petty changes.
By the looks of things, someone needs to turn on their spam filter.
Ok Mcknights,
How does one turn on the spam filter, and how did you know that 413 was a boston number? Did you just know that off the top of your head? Wouldn't suprise me.
Meanwhile I'm going to drop out of the Art Institure and enroll in this nameless program now. Two weeks, I do owe it to my future.
No offense, Dave. Keep in mind that comes from a guy who thinks 98% of everything out there today sucks.
Also, I listen to everything, so your argument that I think something sucks just because I don't listen to it is invalid.
Bands can suck for a lot of reasons. Music is very complicated--think of it as a heart surgery. There's basically a lot of shit that can go wrong. Even if the surgery goes swimmingly, if the nurse forgot to sterilize something, you might die in a month because of infection.
Sometimes I listen to suck because I like one element of the composure. Take country for example (to use your alan jackson reference):
Country music has, by far, the best lyrical writers available. The music itself isn't very complicated (or palatable) at all, but damn it, there just aren't better poets. Does this apply to every song? Of course not (before you make some smarmy comment about a song titled 'Bubba Shot the Jukebox'). Some of the songs are written to be fun, or funny. Usually, they accomplish that, but like everything else, it's hit or miss.
I'll admit, before my understanding of music became better developed, I bought a Journey album (probably because Jesse bought it and I thought he was cooler than me and knew what he was doing). After listening to it a couple times, I either threw it out the window, or put it in your cd collection. My point is, I bet you still own it. Maybe even listen to it. And they SUCK.
Back to my original point, the is nothing, zero, nada, zippy, not one redeemable quality in the band known as Guster. They're not awful, they're GOD awful. They have absolutely no business writing music, booking shows, or recording albums. The music police should confiscate their instruments.
Thanks for your opinionated view of music. Theres nothing I enjoy more than listening to you discuss your musical favorites. There are several bands which I enjoy, and you find completely intolerable. It also works the other way around. I definately was not a fan of Ani the first time I heard her. Ok, she was not unpaletable, just not listenable for long periods of time. I think the first time you really tried to get me to listen to her was in the dark room at YCP. Remember those days? How about that couch, or getting out onto the roof? I digress... It took me years, plus constant nagging from Dave to get me to appreciate Little Plastic Castle, and then the rest of the albums fell into place. You can talk me into liking music, but I don't know if you can talk me out of it. Unless, I'm listening to Alan Jackson
"You can talk me into liking music, but I don't know if you can talk me out of it."
No I can't. Otherwise, you'd have realized Ani's awesomeness years ago. While I do think you'd save yourself a lot of time and trouble (and pain) if you'd just listen to what I tell you to, I'm forced to respect the fact that you aren't a sheep...even if you're not a sheep with bad taste in music.
Ah yes, the couch, the roof, and napping in the auditorium to the delightful sound of Jen playing the grand...good times, good times.
